Pretend Play
I am witnessing some fascinating pretend play these days. My older boys, now ages, 4 and 3, are embarking on a stage of play that leaves me wishing I had half the imagination they do.
“Iron Giant is sad now, Iron Giant is happy, Iron Giant has to poop….”
They are so real in their amazing characters they play. I walked around the corner after discovering Iron Giant, now using the facilities with a most hilarious expression on his face, was still in character. Around another corner and my oldest had a line of soldiers set up and he was lying on the floor in front of them. Followed this by getting up and crushing them all. After all, he too, is a giant.
From this they become “wind man” and “astro boy.” They give wordy play by plays on each thing they are doing. They are hilarious, engaged, loud, excited!
I’m loving it. Don’t get me wrong, I also love it when they quietly watch television so I can cook dinner, but this pretend play is way too awesome for words!!
